Sika Canada entrusts Actemium with the turnkey construction of its new construction products mixing line in Montreal, Canada.
Sika, one of the world’s leading specialty chemical companies, has been present in Canada since 1957 through its subsidiary Sika Canada Inc. Sika’s construction product offering includes concrete admixtures and additives, specialty mortars, grouts and concretes, sealants and adhesives, waterproofing solutions, structural reinforcement systems, industrial floor coatings, protective and decorative coatings, and roofing systems.
As part of its development in the region, Sika Canada chose Actemium and its patented Flexiplant® plant concept to build a second production line on its existing site in Boisbriand, near Montreal.
Genesis of the project
After initial discussions in June 2021, the Actemium and Sika teams met on site in September 2021 to analyse, refine and validate the requirements.
The Flexiplant® design opened up the possibility of installing the production line inside the factory, which reduced the administrative burden of the building.
The definition and validation of the project took place in a context still marked by the global health crisis. By numerous video conferences, the project quickly became a reality thanks to the determination, commitment and efficiency of those involved.
The Actemium Flexiplant® solution
The Flexiplant® is an innovative production unit developed by Actemium’s teams. This flexible and fully automated process can handle a large number of products and recipes from storage, dosing and mixing of powders for customers in the construction or materials chemistry industries.
This design adapts to the production and allows to optimize the investments by limiting the operating costs. Its very small footprint is easily integrated into a new or existing building.
A tailor-made solution for SIKA
The proposed technical solutions include:
· a Flexiplant® equipped with its 3 storage modules, simultaneous dosing for 22 automated raw materials
· a sand storage and grading line
· a Sofraden MIB 110L intensive mixer
· a centralized dust collection system meeting Canadian emission standards
· a large platform to store pallets and FIBCs of raw materials in close proximity, and to manage additional manual additions
The installation also complies with local standards CSA, ASME, IECEx (ATEX equivalent), etc.
We look forward to seeing you next January for the installation of the first equipment, which will mark a major step towards the production start-up of the line. The French Actemium teams are extremely proud to accompany Sika Canada in the design and implementation of this major project.
